Mark Brunswick
Coach Mark Brunswick comes from an extensive baseball background. Over his 13 year tenure as Bellefontaine High
School's varsity baseball coach he has been blessed with fine young student-athletes that have achieved many accolades
for their school and community. As a program, they have amassed a 281-72 overall record, 8 league titles, 7 district
appearances, 4 regional appearances and 2 state final four appearances. Without the commitment of the coaches, players,
school and community Coach Brunswick feels these achievements would have been hard to achieve.
In his high
school years, he was fortunate to be coached by his father, Lou Brunswick, at Coldwater High School. While at Coldwater,
Coach Brunswick had the honor to play on back-to-back state title teams in 1983 and 1984. From there, he was drafted
in the 1984 amateur draft in the 3rd round by the New York Mets. He spent seven years in the organization until other
opportunities arose. Some players that Coach Brunswick played with or against during that time frame were Greg Jefferies,
Randy Myers, Roger McDowell, Vince Coleman and Sandy Alomar.
From there, Coach Brunswick attained his degree from
Wright State University and began his teaching career at Bellefontaine. He has his master's in education with social
studies comprehension. One of Coach Brunswick's favorite memories from the development of the baseball program is
to see his student-athletes go on to college to pursue their college degrees. The program has had 30 plus players play
at the next level, with a record of 7 playing at this present time in college.
Today, Coach Brunswick resides in
Bellefontaine with his wife of 22 years, Gay, and their children Mackenzie (12) and Benjamin (8). His wife is a fourth
grade teacher at Western Intermediate Schools
